An
exhibition, which later became known as
the first ever exhibition of the impressionist
school, was held in Paris in April 1874.
The impressionist school burst onto the
scene with the sparkle of bright light
and fresh colors and it became a monumental
period in the history of modern western
art. The artist who played most influential
leading role in the formation and expansion
of impressionism was Claude Monet (1840
-1926). This exhibition showcases the
work of Monet from 1870s to 1890s when
his activities were at their most inovative
and enthusiastic. The 1870s was when impressionism
first emerged. The 1880s was when Monet
traveled to the Normandy coast and the
Mediterranean Sea in search for new scenery
for the subject of his work, when the
exhibitions of the impressionist school
ended and when neo-impressionism emerged.
The 1890s was when the impressionism of
Monet reached a crescendo with his "serial"
paintings. This exhibition includes “Ukiyoe-prints”by
Hokusai and Hiroshige which Monet collected,
besides his “Serial”paintings such as
London landscape and water-lilies.. It
promises the viewer a fresh chance to
explore the essence and charm of impressionism
pioneer Claude Monet.
