明治・大正・昭和初期は，西洋文化の大きな影響を受けながら，華やかなデザイン・繊細な刺繍や染めなど，染織工芸のきわめて高度な技術に支えられ、着物文化が最も光り輝いた時代でもありました。
今回の展示は，わが国を代表する着物コレクター池田重子氏の貴重なコレクションの中から，“昔きもの”ブームの発端となった作品を中心に，四季折々のきもの約90点を帯・半襟・帯留めなどとコーディネートし、一堂に展観するものです。贅を尽くして生み出された逸品、時代を超えて集まった名作が，研ぎ澄まされた現代のドレスアップ・スタイルとしてよみがえります。
近年，古典の見直しが進む中で，日本が世界に誇る手工芸のレベルの高さを再認識し，近代の粋（いき）についてあらためて問いかけます。.
The modern period
in Japan, encompassing the period from
Meiji to Showa, was a flourishing period
for kimono culture due to a heavy influence
of western culture and dramatic technological
advancements in the art of textile making.This
exhibition showcases 90 kimonos representing
the modern period, coordinated with accessories
such as sash(obi), replaceable
collar (han-eri) and sash ornamental
piece(obidome). Come and observe
the beauty of the elegant modern kimonos.
