アンソニー・ヴァン・ダイク「エジプトへの逃避途上の休息」 ヨハネ・パウロ2世美術館蔵

古典の名作から印象派に至るまで、600年におよぶヨーロッパ絵画の名品を数多く所蔵するポーランドのヨハネ･パウロ二世美術館のコレクションから、17世紀の絵画に焦点を当て、ヨーロッパの各地で、それぞれ特徴ある美術様式を発展させた画家たちの作品をご紹介します。
　17世紀。日本では江戸時代が始まった頃、ヨーロッパではバロックと呼ばれる芸術様式が大流行します。イタリアで生まれ、各国に広がったこの様式は、ダイナミックな構図や、ドラマ性を感じさせる明暗法などが特徴となっています。
　本展では、イタリアのカラヴァッジオ工房やオランダのレンブラント、スペインのベラスケス、ムリーリョなど、巨匠・名匠と呼ばれる作家の作品50点を展示します。彼らが自然と人間、歴史と神話を媒体に、豊かな想像力と卓越した技法で描き出した重厚な世界をご堪能ください。

レンブラント・ファン・レイン「襞襟を着けた女性の肖像」　ヨハネ・パウロ2世美術館蔵

We will display 17th century European paintings from the collection of Museum John Paul II. in Poland. The museum possesses many European paintings from classic masterpieces to the works of the impressionists, for a time span of 600 years. The artists we will introduce here are those who established unique art styles in various parts of Europe.
17th century in Japan it was the time when Edo period started, while in Europe an art style of Baroque prevailed. Born in Rome, Italy and flourished throughout Europe, the Baroque is characterized by dynamic composition and dramatic shading.
In this exhibition, we will introduce about 60 masterpieces of great painters including Caravaggio workshop of Italy, Rembrandt of Holland. Velazquez of Spain. We hope you'll appreciate their deep art depicted with a fertile imagination and superb technique, taking nature and Man, history and myth as 'medium'.
